Studies

Camilla is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is double majoring in biostatistics in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and music.

Camilla’s current interests lie in the field of biostatistics. She is a member of UNC’s Precision Health and AI Research Lab (PHAIR). Camilla is interested in survey sampling, clinical trials, precision medicine, and genetics as well as the social determinants of health.

Research experience

Water Institute, August 2025-present

Camilla is working on her senior honors thesis through the Water Institute at UNC, looking at the relationship between WASH facilities and patient and healthcare worker satisfaction. (PI: Dr. Ryan Cronk).

Carbonshed Lab, Spring and Summer 2025

Camilla was selected for the NSF-funded Interational Research Experience for Undergraduates (IREU) Frontier Research in Earth Sciences (FRES) project, “From Peaks To Slopes To Communities, Tropical Glacierized Volcanoes As Sentinels of Global Change: Integrated Impacts On Water, Plants and Elemental Cycling” (PI: Dr. Diego Riveros-Iregui). Camilla conducted fieldwork in the Cayambe Coca Ecological Reserve and National Park in Ecuador. She measured carbon dioxide and methane levels in the headwater streams of the páramo, a location thought to have large effects on the global carbon cycle.

The Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Ecology Lab (IDEEL), Summer and Fall 2024

The multi-year project Sapovirus-associated Acute Gastroenteritis in Early Childhood (SAGE) collected laboratory data from 400+ newborns in Nicaragua. Camilla cleaned the lab data and merged it into RedCAP. (PIs: Dr. Sylvia Becker-Dreps and Dr. Nadja Vielot.)

Zannas Lab, Fall 2023

Using R, Camilla conducted data cleaning and analysis on patient traumatic response dataset using Tidyverse package. She prepared 5+ tables in R for a paper publication. (PIs: Dr. Anthony Zannas and Dr. Xinming An.) Camilla then took STOR 320: Introduction to Data Science to increase her fluency in R.

Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics (SVSM), Summer 2020

Camilla was a selected participant in the 2020 Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics (SVSM), a research-based program for academically talented North Carolina students who demonstrated an interest in and aptitude for pursuing science and mathematics in higher education and careers. In the program, Camilla conducted research on using data mining techniques to predict Atrial Fibrillation under the guidance of Dr. Cuixian “Tracy” Chen and Dr. Yishi Wang. With her teammates Nihar Thakkar and William Harrison, Camilla submitted their poster to the State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research & Creativity Symposium (SNCURCS).
